Role: Principal Engineer – Fuel Infrastructure
Location: Midlands
Salary: £65,000 – £70,000 + Company car or Car allowance + Bonus
Home working: This will be a role based from home but will involve national travel attending client sites.
Mainstay Recruitment is excited to represent a leading Facilities Management company in seeking a Principal Engineer to oversee a critical fuel inspection programme, manage a dedicated Authorising Engineer/Professional Fuel Inspector, and provide expert guidance to management teams, employees, and contractors on fuel infrastructure. This pivotal role offers the chance to shape a sustainable fuels team and deliver long-term value to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) while maintaining the highest standards of safety compliance and operational consistency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and implement a fuel inspection programme, signing off approximately 150 reports annually.
- Mentor and manage an Authorising Engineer/Professional Fuel Inspector.
- Provide technical expertise on MOD fuel infrastructure standards and Safety Management Systems.
- Ensure legislative compliance and manage safety systems of work.
- Drive efficiency through self-delivery and partnerships while fostering strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Travel extensively across England, from Newcastle to the South Coast, to oversee operations and inspections.
What You’ll Need:
- A BEng, MSc, or MEng qualification, or professional registration as an Incorporated Engineer.
- Proven experience in fuel infrastructure management and inspections.
- Strong skills in data analysis, report writing, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Flexibility to travel extensively and a full UK driving licence.
- Knowledge of MOD standards and industry practices, including EEMUA 159 and “The Blue Book” guidelines, is advantageous.
