Mainstay Recruitment are recruiting for an experienced Mobile Mechanical & Electrical Engineer to support the safe, effective, and compliant delivery of engineering services across a diverse Defence estate for our client. This is a mobile role covering a wide geographic area, requiring autonomous working across multiple sites.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in implementing and administering the MOD Safe System of Work, acting as an Appointed Person for relevant technical disciplines including electrical, HVAC, and water systems. The role carries significant responsibility for safety, compliance, and technical assurance.

You will be responsible for the practical implementation and ongoing operation of JSP 375, ensuring safe systems of work are rigorously applied. This includes maintaining oversight of all activities within your area of responsibility, assessing the competence of Skilled Persons, issuing permits to work, producing risk assessments and method statements, and ensuring all engineering activities are carried out safely and compliantly.

As a key technical authority, you will provide expert advice and support to internal teams, supply chain partners, Defence Infrastructure representatives, and end users. You will contribute to technical planning, support project delivery, and work closely with Billable Works teams to ensure all installations and maintenance activities meet required standards.

You will take ownership of identifying equipment defects, contributing to risk meetings, reviewing site risk registers, and ensuring corrective actions are completed within agreed timescales. The role also involves close collaboration with Senior Engineers and operational stakeholders to promote best practice, support professional development, and drive continuous improvement in safety, compliance, and technical delivery.

You will develop and maintain your own training and competency plans, ensuring familiarity with all relevant systems, equipment, and processes across the estate. You will also advise management on any deficiencies in safe systems of work, contribute to process improvement initiatives, and support sustainability and carbon reduction objectives aligned with Defence targets.

The role requires attendance at stakeholder meetings, close engagement with site teams and end users, and the provision of proactive, informed technical advice. This is a highly responsible position requiring a professional who consistently prioritises safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

This is a mobile role covering the West Midlands and Wales. Candidates must be willing and able to travel extensively as required.

What You’ll Bring

• Fully qualified Electrical Engineer

• Ideally hold Appointed Person (AP) tickets in Electrical and/or Mechanical disciplines (training can be provided)

• Strong practical experience of Safe Systems of Work, particularly JSP 375

• Proven ability to work independently across multiple sites

• Experience supervising site operations, managing resources, and providing staff leadership

• Confident problem-solving and decision-making skills

• Full UK driving licence

• Flexibility to participate in on-call rotas and work overtime when required
