Evaluate what you want to do, in comparison with what you can do
This is a great time to look at how you would like your next role to differ from your current one. Whether that be more or less responsibility, improved benefits, the option for flexibility, a change in company culture or something completely different. We all have a set of skills that apply to a multitude of tasks, and so are not limited to only one role.
You can use this as an opportunity to align your personal values with your working life. If you can find a role that does this for you, you are more likely to feel fulfilled and less likely to want to move again soon.
Update your CV
The first obvious step for many, but it is so important that your CV reflects the level of responsibility and set of skills that you currently have. This is particularly important when you are making a shift in the direction of your career, as you want to ensure your CV matches well with your desired career.

Grow your network
Engaging with important contacts in your field can open up opportunities that wouldn’t have otherwise been available to you. Make the most of the relationships you already have and aim to always improve them. Platforms such as LinkedIn can be a great way to make yourself known, without actually being in the same spaces as your target employers.
This also applies to your social media profiles. Keep a check on what’s visible to others about you online and ensure there is nothing that could deter a potential employer.
Think long-term
Whenever you are moving roles, it is a great time to think about your long-term plans. Where is it that you want to be in 5, 10 or even 20 years? This is a good way to look at logical paths into these careers early on.
