Mechanical Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the Facilities Management team at HMP Fosse Way, a newly built Category C resettlement prison in Leicester with capacity for approximately 1,700 inmates. As a key member of a multi-skilled FM team, you will be responsible for the upkeep and efficient operation of mechanical and HVAC systems across the site. The role includes a blend of planned and reactive maintenance, with occasional support to electrical and general building services tasks, ensuring the safe and secure running of the estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled and reactive maintenance on mechanical and HVAC systems in line with current legislation and site-specific standards
- Assist with fault finding and minor electrical repairs where appropriate
- Deliver pre-planned maintenance (PPM) tasks to a high standard and within deadlines
- Conduct inspections, fault diagnosis, and remedial works on plant and mechanical equipment
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records to ensure compliance with statutory requirements
- Collaborate with other trades to support an integrated, team-based approach to FM delivery
- Escort and supervise external contractors in accordance with site security and safety protocols
- Participate in an on-call rota and provide out-of-hours support when required
What We’re Looking For
- Recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering or HVAC (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent)
- Hands-on experience in a similar maintenance role, ideally within a custodial or facilities setting
- Working knowledge of underfloor heating systems
- Electrical qualifications desirable but not essential
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Flexible, reliable, and committed to maintaining a high standard of service
- Willingness to join the on-call rota and respond to out-of-hours issues when needed
