Job Title: Mechanical Estimator Location: Manchester, Lancashire Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 per year (depending on experience)

Mainstay Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Estimator to join our well know, local client based in near Manchester, Lancashire.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for evaluating project costs, preparing detailed estimates, and ensuring financial accuracy throughout the project lifecycle, across sites such as schools, colleges and renewable energy systems. Your insights will directly support our project management and bid teams, helping ensure they stay on time, on budget, and ahead of the competition.

Key Responsibilities as a Mechanical Estimator:

• Lead the end-to-end estimating process to deliver consistently accurate cost estimates.

• Provide expert estimating advice and commercial support to the Bid Team.

• Review and analyse job opportunities to strengthen our competitive position.

• Liaise with supply chain partners and manage subcontractor/vendor enquiries.

• Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor quotes to secure competitive pricing.

• Identify and manage risks within tender processes and analyse lost bids to improve future success.

• Use spreadsheets, databases, and estimation tools to produce clear, accurate estimates.

• Work closely with the supply chain to ensure the most competitive edge on pricing.

• Produce clear internal reports and handovers in line with company pricing strategies.

• Collaborate with the Bid Manager for regular reviews and progress updates.

• Maintain pricing data and track estimating trends to inform future bids.

 

What We’re Looking For:

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator, ideally within construction or manufacturing.

 

 

• Solid understanding of cost control and estimating principles.

• Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.

• Proficiency in estimation software and Microsoft Excel.

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field is advantageous but not essential.
