9-Month Fixed-Term Contract | £55,000 per annum (PAYE) + Company Car or Car Allowance
Base Location: Aldershot | Covering the South East and South West
On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced and conservation-focused Heritage Building Surveyor to join a well-established team on a 9-month fixed-term contract. This important role involves conducting quadrennial inspections and preparing high-quality reports for a portfolio of Grade II listed buildings and military accommodation. The successful candidate will play a central role in the preservation and maintenance of historically significant assets across a large estate.

About the Client
Our client delivers essential facilities management and accommodation maintenance services in support of the UK’s armed forces and their families. Their operations are driven by a commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement, guided by core values of Openness, Care, Agility, and Collaboration.

The Role
This is a home-based position requiring regular travel throughout the South East and South West of England, with Aldershot as the designated reporting base. Occasional overnight stays may be necessary depending on site locations. The role involves inspecting a variety of listed properties—primarily Grade II—and providing conservation-led reports to inform asset planning, statutory compliance, and maintenance strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out quadrennial inspections of Grade II listed buildings and residential units, assessing structural integrity and conservation requirements
  • Evaluate traditional materials, building fabric, and historical detailing with sensitivity to heritage value
  • Produce structured, high-quality reports in line with Historic England and local authority expectations
  • Offer clear recommendations for repair, ongoing maintenance, and long-term conservation planning
  • Liaise with internal teams, planning authorities, conservation officers, architects, and heritage bodies
  • Promote conservation best practice and sustainability across the estate
  • Keep abreast of changes in legislation, technical standards, and innovation in heritage management

Essential Criteria

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Building Conservation, Historic Building Surveying, Architecture, Heritage Management, or a related discipline
  • Professional membership of IHBC, RICS (with Building Conservation Accreditation), RIBA, or CIOB
  • Demonstrable experience surveying and reporting on historic buildings, preferably within large or complex estates
  • Deep understanding of traditional construction materials and conservation principles
  • Familiarity with legislation governing listed buildings, planning processes, and consents
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to produce accurate, clear technical reports
  • Competence with IT and surveying tools, including interpretation of technical drawings and asset data

To express interest in this opportunity, or to discuss further details, please get in touch. This is an excellent chance to contribute to the stewardship of the UK’s built heritage within a meaningful and mission-driven environment.
