We are actively seeking a Senior IT Field Engineer for an innovative managed service provider supporting SMEs and the educational sector.

Key responsibilities

As a Senior IT Field Engineer, you will…

  • Provide comprehensive technical support and expertise to clients while on-site, ensuring efficient resolution of IT-related issues and seamless operation of systems and networks.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for the customer while on site.
  • Work at a senior technical level within the business, contributing to solution design and leading on the delivery of allocated projects.
  • Provide all aspects of IT support as required by the customer.
  • Prioritise tickets in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Ensure all networked devices are up to date with necessary security patches, firmware, and anti-virus definitions.
  • Complete service reports to record work carried out during site visits.
  • Install and configure hardware, software, and networking equipment as required.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Support colleagues with technical issues and contribute to the development of services delivered by the company.
  • Adhere to SLAs with customers and complete work within agreed timescales.
  • Provide cover for the service desk where required.
  • Deliver 2nd and 3rd line remote support to customers where required.
  • Always adhere to information security policies.
  • Liaise with colleagues and 3rd parties as required to provide solutions to customers.
  • Produce documentation for use both by the company and our customers.

Person specification

The ideal Senior IT Field Engineer will need to:

  • Be a confident communicator at all levels, both written and verbally.
  • Take a proactive approach to IT support and show initiative in your day-to-day work.
  • Manage your time effectively, multitask, and prioritise your workload.
  • Have a willingness to travel to, from, and between customer sites daily.
  • Have a logical and thorough approach to problem-solving.
  • Be willing to continually learn new skills and share subject knowledge with others.
  • Positively represent the company and always offer excellent customer service.

Technical skills and experience

To be considered for the Senior IT Field Engineer role, you will need to have experience with:

  • Windows Server (2012 to current) in a production environment (including installation).
  • Associated server technologies, in particular: AD, GPO, DNS, DHCP, print management, WSUS.
  • Virtual server technologies (Hyper-V and/or VMware), including storage and networking.
  • Deployment and management of Windows 10/11 in a domain environment.
  • Mass deployment of software applications to network devices.
  • Modern backup technologies, strategies, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Endpoint security solutions (AV, encryption etc).
  • O365 administration (AAD Connect, user management, email, OneDrive, Sharepoint, Teams).
  • Network device configuration, e.g. patching, VLANs, STP, QoS, VPNs, firewalls, web filters, routers, and wireless technologies.
  • Hardware upgrades for servers and workstations.

Additionally, desirable knowledge and/or experience areas include:

  • MDM technologies (e.g. Intune, Jamf, Meraki, Miradore).
  • M365 experience, such as; Azure, Azure AD, Intune, Autopilot, licensing, Security, compliance, and on-prem to Cloud migrations.
  • VoIP systems.
  • Apple technologies (MacOS, iOS, iCloud, ASM).
  • Audiovisual equipment.
  • Storage systems & technologies (NAS, SAN, iSCSI).
